LiDAR map of my area
Enter a postcode or the name of a town, village or parish in England or Wales, or use your location. You get the nearest parish LiDAR maps, the nearest monuments with their own LiDAR page, and a link that opens the spot in the full map.
How to see the LiDAR of your area
- Find your parish above, or open the LiDAR map and search for your address.
- Turn the sun in the app to light banks and ditches from different sides.
- Lay the LiDAR over the satellite photograph and the Ordnance Survey six-inch maps of 1843–1913 to see what is modern.
- Click the pins to read the heritage records for anything you find.
Questions
Is there LiDAR of my area?
England is covered almost entirely by the Environment Agency survey, and Wales by the Welsh Government and Natural Resources Wales survey. A few places, including parts of the coast and some uplands, have gaps.
Can I see my house or garden on LiDAR?
The terrain model removes buildings and trees, so you see the ground around them: garden terraces, old field banks, ponds and earthworks. At one metre per pixel, small features of a metre or two are at the limit.
Is my location sent anywhere?
A location from your browser is used on this page only. A postcode is looked up with postcodes.io, an open data service, to turn it into coordinates.
